Weekend Reading

Wow it’s October already and that means we will be moving to our new house in less than 3 weeks! I can’t wait!  Although Mrs. T and I love the city life, we can’t wait to start the slower paced suburban lifestyle. Because we’re thinking of replacing the old carpets in the house, Mrs. T and I will be spending part of the weekend looking at carpet and hardwood floor options. We probably will spend part of the weekend on packing as well. Fun fun fun!

Random Quote of the Day:

Think for yourself. Question authority.

Throughout human history, as our species has faced the frightening, terrorizing fact that we do not know who we are, or where we are going in this ocean of chaos, it has been the authorities, the political, the
religious, the educational authorities who attempted to comfort us by giving us order, rules, regulations, informing, forming in our minds their view of reality. To think for yourself you must question authority and learn how to put yourself in a state of vulnerable, open-mindedness; chaotic, confused, vulnerability to inform yourself.

Think for yourself. Question authority.

Before I go into some fine articles from around the Personal Finances blogosphere I want to highlight my posts on 3 Frugal Ways to Save on Electronics and 10 Frugal Travel Tips for Italy. For love birds out there looking to get married in the future you definitely want to check out Getting Married 3 times for Cheap Part 1 for some money saving ideas.

Now for some links

Guy at Early Retirement Guy quit his job! That’s a big move and I’m sure he will be much happier with his life moving forward.

Shannon shared 10 cheap entertainment hacks. Personally I really like the potluck idea. That’s why we often have potluck with our friends.

Kipps is sharing his thought on living like you’re dying for the entire October. There are some very interesting thoughts so far.

Frugal Trader wrote about Best Master Card for Costco. I’m happy to hear that Costco will accept Master Cards in their Canadian stores now. The new Costco card sure looks great but I think I’ll stick with our Capital One Aspire Travel card.

No More Waffles has been eating a lot of waffles again (tsk tsk!) to keep his monthly spending down. He also received his first dividend income in September. It’s so great to see young folks becoming more aware of personal finances. I wish I could be more aware of my own finances in my 20’s.

Dividend Growth Investor wrote an excellent piece on why you don’t need to be right all the time to succeed in dividend investing. I can’t agree more with his article. This is why I’m a true believer for dividend growth investment.

Mark shared 8 things that he has discovered about money. Point #8 is so true. Nobody wants you to save money. Everyone wants you to spend your hard earn money so they can profit from you. This is why saving money is your responsibility.

Will shared What it’s like to travel on business. Having recently traveled for work myself, Will definitely raised a few good points in his article. It’s SO easy to work double shifts when you’re traveling for work. I’m definitely guilty for doing this, especially when I go to Asia for work.

Steve at Kapitalust showed some fancy graphs to demonstrate the efficiency of stock markets. If you like graphs like me, you should check out this article.

Mrs. Frugalwoods talks about Put Your Life on Frugal Autopilot. Good to see that the Frugalwoods household share similar habits as the Tawcan household.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone. Stay safe!

Thank you so much for including my post, Tawcan! I really appreciate it :). Plus, I’m glad to hear Mr. FW and I aren’t the only ones who live that way. Perlemus is too cute–you simply must do a Frugal Hound Sniffs interview!
