Heal Your Body, Fix Your Car and How to Get a Baby Out

As you may know, reaching financial independence is one of the major themes for this blog. If you have been reading for a while, you also know that self-improvement, being joyful and content in life, finding your personal balance, and other philosophical topics are a large part of this blog as well. One of the key reasons for that is because I believe personal finance is more than just about money; it is about who we are as individuals and our mindsets. Being a holistic practitioner, self-improvement and a positive mindset is something Mrs. T helps her clients with during every healing session.

Mrs. T has been journaling her personal healing and self-improvement stories and lessons she has learned throughout her life. This past year she has been putting these stories and lessons together into a self-help book with the goal to help other people through life’s twists and turns.

Today, her book titled, “Heal Your Body, Fix Your Car and How to Get a Baby Out: A self-help guide through life’s twists and turns” is launching on Amazon. Since Mrs. T is an important part of this blog, where she often helps me with proof-reading articles, gives me ideas on what to write about, and challenges me on some of the topics I write about, I thought this would be a perfect time to interview her and let her give more details about her book.

Q1: First of all, congratulations on getting the book published. I know you have spent a lot of time on the book this past year. The book title is quite interesting, can you tell me what the book is about?

Thank you! The book is about a lot of different scenarios that I have experienced in my life so far and the lessons I learned from them. There are stories about bullying, relationships, spirituality, sex, pregnancy and birth, children and how they are our biggest teachers 😊 healing from various injuries and illnesses, just to name a few.

In each chapter, there is a challenge for the reader. It can be an exercise in practicing gratitude or finding out what you are really passionate about. It is all about taking what you need at this moment in time and leaving the rest for later if you find yourself in a situation similar to what I’ve experienced. I guess the point of the book is to give the readers different tools to deal with their stuff, so they can move forward faster and also to just know that “this too shall pass”.

Q2: Very interesting, why did you spend all that time journaling your stories? Why did you write the book and who is the book for?

I wrote the book because I wanted to help others through tough times, and because I sometimes wish I had had more help in my life. I’ve definitely had amazing help with many different issues I have faced, but there has also been a lot of times where I’ve felt lost and not knowing how or if I would ever get through something. I’ve learned so much already, but I am by no means done learning and growing. I know that’s the same for every human being. As long as we are living, we can learn.

It is our choice to grow or stay stagnant in our comfort zone.

One thing to keep in mind though, when we go stale and stop learning, we are busy dying.

Q3. This is a personal finance blog with a heavy focus on Financial Independence Retire Early. How is your book related to personal finance and FIRE? In other words, why should my readers read your book?

Because it is pretty awesome! 😀

Jokes aside, I believe you can reach FIRE and still not feel accomplished or happy. We need to work on our inner game first and do the groundwork in order to feel great in our life. If all you have is financial security, then what can you really do with that? If you are not happy in your relationships/role as a parent/business partner/friend/family member etc., then all the money in the world won’t matter. You can’t buy happiness, you can only achieve that by practicing gratitude for what you already have. Only by loving yourself can you be truly happy and content in life. It doesn’t mean you won’t have challenges, tough times and tricky situations, but you will be better equipped to go through them.

Q4. Having seen the amount of time you’ve put into getting this book published, what have you learned in the process of writing this book? Any advice to readers that are thinking about self-publishing a book?

If you are thinking about self-publishing, DO IT!

I believe everybody has a story to tell. It is just about taking small steps continuously. I think it has taken me several years of journaling and then almost a full year of rewriting, editing, figuring out how to publish the book, create the cover etc. before the book was finally finished and ready to be published. It is a long journey in itself, but very much worth it. I’m excited that this “baby” of mine is out in the world now, and I hope that it can help others on their journey. I’ll be happy if I can just help one person out there who is going through tough times. I guess maybe the key to publishing is to never give up. It might not turn out exactly as you thought it would, but it might be even better than you could have ever imagined.

Q5. What was the most difficult part of the self-publishing process?

Making the decision to actually publish the book. Also finding a good reliable editor, cover designer and help in general within the publishing world. There is a lot of trial and error, and I think there is no one-size-fits-all model, each author needs to find what works for them.

Q6. Each chapter of the book has a chapter challenge. Why did you construct the book that way?

I constructed the book that way so the reader can recap each chapter and pick one or more challenge to work on to improve their life. Some of the challenges have videos connected to them in order to better understand the process, and those can be found on my website www.creatinggreathealth.com

I really wanted to make it easily accessible for the reader to take something from the book that they feel they can work with right here, right now and get results. I like practical steps I can take when I’m in a sticky spot, so that’s the way I created the chapter challenges.

Q7. The book is very personal and describes your life journey so far. If you can change one thing in the past, what would that be and why?

I honestly don’t think there are many things I would change. The reason for that is that I believe everything happens for a reason, and I am where I am today because of all the experiences I’ve gone through so far. So by changing even just one little thing, I may or may not be in this exact place in my life right at this moment. I might not have met you if I changed my previous relationship experiences. 😉

If I really have to give you a concrete definite answer, then there is one thing that I wish I could have done differently – starting my FIRE journey sooner!

Q8. Any last words of advice for my readers?

Take what you can from the lessons and tools in the book and leave the ones that don’t resonate with you. There is no wrong or right way, only the way we choose to take, it will always be our own choice to either do something or to walk away from it. You have to build your way! It will be much more profound and powerful for you when you reach your goals if you are the one making the decisions to go for them. Be gentle with yourself in the healing process, some things take time, and that is ok. Life is a journey, not a destination!

Thank you, Mrs. T! Glad to have you sharing your stories with my readers!

  1. “Also finding a good reliable editor”

Yupp editors are the unsung heros of the book publishing world. My editor took my book from a steamimg pile of crap to something ahlf way decent, OK not quite that bad but she helped bring clarity and focus to the book. It was worth every penny!

  2. Congratulations! The book sounds like a good read. Bob, can you show the finance side of publishing a book? Will it be profitable? I’d like to see the numbers after 6 months or so. Thanks!

  4. Congratulations, Mrs. T. Publishing a book is quite an achievement. I just downloaded the Kindle version and will be digging into it tomorrow. As you so eloquently pointed out, FIRE isn’t everything. And we can always use a little help with the non-financial aspects of life. Cheers.

  5. congratulations on the book launch. that’s just great. i look forward to reading a different perspective from the average american way of spending time stressing out on the hamster wheel of life. i think some cultural diversity is good for everyone and there are places in the world with a better overall outlook and philosophy than we have here.

    cheers.
