Weekend Reading – Summer vacation edition

After spending a week in hot and humid Asia last week, I sure am glad to be back in Vancouver where the word “hot” summer days typically consists of temperature in the mid 20’s. It’s certainly much more enjoyable than the 33C with 90% humidity that feels like 45C I experienced in Shenzhen and Hong Kong.

Next week we’ll spend some time in the Okanagan enjoying some much needed R&R. I’m looking forward to getting some freshly picked fruits and spending more time with Mrs. T and the kids. Both Baby T1.0 and Babby T2.0 are learning new things daily. Just this week, Baby T1.0 started asking “Daddy how’s your day?” when I get home from work; At 4 month, Baby T2.0 is almost rolling from her back to front. It’s certainly an interesting time here in Casa de Tawcan. 🙂

Here are some great articles I’ve come across recently.

Marie shared her tips on Teaching young kids with money.

Mike stated that Time is your most valuable asset.

Vivian shared her thought on Cashing in on Pokemon Go – Who are the winners.

Steve explained how to 80/20 the hell out of your life.

Joe shared what Life is like 4 years after early retirement.

Apathy Ends explained the Benefits of long term financial relationships.

Physician on Fire said that Geographic arbitrage is a great way to become financial independence faster.

Our Next Life Fesses up their most cheapskate habits.

Mr. Tako asked Is the market overvalued.

I tried to meet up with FI Fighter when I was in Hong Kong last week but didn’t manage to do so. It was cool to read about His first impression of Hong Kong.

Kate explained How to save for retirement without a 401(k).

Jeremy shocked everyone by saying that retirement has already cost them at least $5 million.

Sam thinks that we should all look at ourselves in the mirror when it comes to healthcare.

Kraig explained How to live on $20,000 a year without mooching off anyone.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Thanks for the mention, Tawcan! Any plans to take advantage of some Geographic Arbitrage in early retirement? Vancouver is not exactly a LCOL area.

    Cheers!

      Hi PoF,

As mentioned in my previous post, we might consider living in Taiwan as that’s a LCOL place. Another thought it to live in a smaller town but would probably need to do something other than high tech.

I saw that, but didn’t think Taiwan would necessarily be LCOL, but according to an internet calculator, its 21% cheaper than the U.S. Denmark on the other hand….

Only 21%? I’d have thought it’s much cheaper. I suppose the difference is a lot higher between Taiwan and Vancouver. Yup Denmark is pretty expensive.

    Thanks for the link Tawcan!

I can’t even imagine 45C. The mild summers we have in the Pacific Northwest are nothing compared to that.

Where did you visit in Asia?

Hi Tawcan, Welcome back to Vancouver after a hectic trip to China. I have been reading your blog for quite some time and it’s so nice to have someone so mature about life and retirement at such a young age. I have recently started blogging and would appreciate if you feel an article of mine is worth including in your reading list on this blog. I look forward to having you visit my blog and comment. Best regards, TFR

Yeesh, yeah, lots of long term travelers like SE Asia but we only just managed 6 weeks. Too hot for us (even for me, born in KL!)
